AI for retail and consumer brands, beyond the chatbot
The group has built ecommerce and brand platforms for retailers and consumer brands since 2006, from Krispy Kreme and Illamasqua to CarpetRight and Hallmark. That is the integration and data experience most retail AI projects turn out to need.
Where AI is going in the sector
Retail was early to AI in recommendations and search, and most of what is now possible builds on the same foundations: a clean product catalogue, first-party customer data, order and stock systems that can be read and, carefully, written to. The opportunities with the fastest return are rarely the customer-facing chatbot; they are product content at scale, segmentation and personalisation, demand and stock forecasting, and the customer-service assistants that answer "where is my order" from the systems of record.
Our approach is the same as in every sector: find where value and readiness meet, start with what the data supports, and build the foundations for the rest in parallel.
Where we look first
The opportunities we have scoped or delivered in this sector, or that the frameworks apply to directly. Which are ready depends on your data, which is the first thing we check.
Product content generation
Descriptions, attributes and variants grounded in the catalogue and the brand voice, reviewed before publish, across languages.
Personalisation and segmentation
Audience segmentation, recommendations and lifecycle messaging from first-party data.
Customer-service assistants
Order, delivery, returns and account support grounded in the systems of record, with disclosure and handover.
Demand forecasting and stock
Forecasting and replenishment once sales, stock and promotion data are pooled.
Search and acquisition
Conversational search, AI-search visibility and acquisition analytics.
Returns and reviews analysis
Mining returns reasons and reviews for product and service issues.
Who we have worked with
The group has delivered for Krispy Kreme, Illamasqua, Walker's Shortbread, Regatta, CarpetRight, Harvey's, Hallmark Cards, Turtle Wax, Buy Sheds Direct, Stateside Skates and The Dice Shop Online, among others.
We cite this as group experience. Where we have delivered AI for a client, the case study says so; where we have not, we do not imply it.
What the sector needs from AI governance
Customer data under data-protection law and the brand's own promises; customer-facing assistants that disclose they are AI and hand over cleanly; generated content reviewed before it carries the brand; and no AI decisions about individual customers without the oversight the EU AI Act expects.
About AI in retail and consumer brands
Which platforms do you work with?
Shopify, BigCommerce, Adobe Commerce and bespoke platforms, with the ERP, warehouse, PIM and marketing systems behind them.
Where should a retailer start?
Usually product content and customer-service assistants: the data is in hand, the return is measurable, and both are ready within weeks.
Have you delivered AI for a retailer?
Our AI consultancy work to date has been in manufacturing, publishing and agencies; our retail work is twenty years of platform delivery, which is the ground the AI opportunities above stand on. We say which is which.
